What was the Blitz?
The Blitz, a German word for "lightning," was Germany's strategic bombings against London and other British cities during World War II. The intense and devastating bombs dropped by the German Air Force, also known as the Luftwaffe, targeted populated areas, factories, and dock yards. Night after night, from September 1940 until May 1941, these never ending air raids left Britain with catastrophic losses. ("The Blitz")
